Information about the Print
An impression of this plate, or Italian Hill Town plate No.1, was exhibited at Colnaghi in Etchings by Isabel Codrington, June 1933
Provenance:
The artist’s estate and by descent to her grandson.
The second plate reverses the composition of the first, presumably to make it read topographically in the correct direction.
Most probably a view of Assisi.
On the expedition to Italy in about 1910, Isabel was photographed in Assisi, drawing bullock carts.
Mrs Konody sketching at Assisi, photograph by Gustavus Mayer, published in Konody’s book Through the Alps to the Apennines, 1911.
There are quite a number of other differences between the two plates. Number 2 has a more finished feel.
